Your job as a property manager is complicated. It’s your responsibility to make decisions directly affecting property value and income potential, which flows straight down to your net operating income. Here’s another Squires Electric property management tip!

Electrical emergencies don’t usually adhere to regular business hours and when a major electrical problem comes up, waiting to deal with it can cause even bigger problems. Here are 5 common emergencies and how to address them.

  •  Power Outages: If surrounding properties are without power, it’s probably a downed line or blown transformer and you’ll just need to wait on the utility company for repairs. If the outage is isolated to your property, it could signal major issues like a short or damaged service gear.
  • Overloaded Outlets:  When too many appliances that draw significant amounts of power (like microwaves, hair dryers, and toasters) are connected to the same outlet or circuit, that can be a recipe for disaster. The outlet can overheat, leading to smoke, sparking and electrical fire.
  • Buzzing Breaker Box:  If you hear strange noises coming from your breaker box, that could mean a loose breaker or wire, which can lead to outages or fires. You should call Squires Electric immediately.
  • Fallen Power Lines:  Strong storms and heavy winds snap power lines all the time. NEVER approach them, even in your car. Call the utility or dial 911 if you see dangerous conditions like sparking or proximity to unsuspecting passers-by.
