Squires Electric is always looking out for our customers’ best interests. We want to make sure that our operations are efficient and that our recommendations encourage the safest possible environment. Here’s a look at another of the ways that we’re looking out for you.

It’s time to Spring Forward! Here a few action items for the change of seasons..

Check your smoke alarms! Install fresh batteries (we recommend lithium-ion), and write the replacement date inside the cover.  A light dusting or vacuum can insure proper function. Side note: hard-wired smoke detectors throughout the property should be the same make & model for best function.

Press the test button on your GFCI outlets! Check to see if that outlet and others in that area shut off. If they don’t, be sure they’re protected by a different GFCI outet. Once you’ve tested them, press the “reset” button to turn them back on.

Switch off the circuit that your electric heaters are connected to and clean the motor and elements to eliminate dust build-up. While you’re at it, clean out those dryer vent. This insures proper function and reduces fire hazard

Before you start your outdoor projects like roof and gutter cleaning or tree pruning, look for any nearby lines that could make contact with ladders or extended tools. Contact the utility if there are concerns about tree limbs growing into or around overhead power lines on your property and always call for locates before you dig.

Inspect power tools and electric lawn mowers for frayed power cords, broken plugs and weathered or damaged housings. Do not use damaged equipment until it has been repaired properly. Keep tools unplugged and stored in dry areas when they are not in use.
